The heart is like a pump which sends blood all over the body. The blood travels away from the heart and back again in tubes called arteries and veins. A muscular wall called the septum divides it into the left and right sides. A valve divides each side into two chambers. Oxygenated blood flows through the aorta to all parts of the body. [left side and arteries] Normally, the heart beats at a fairly steady rate and you can feel this beat as a pulse. The best way to feel your pulse is on your neck or your wrist.
